Finished Taping First Coat Completed

Now that all my butt and lateral joints have been troweled for the first time and all my corners and corner beads are taped and hit once I declare my first coat to this basement renovation finished!

Fred is inspecting holes in the drywall that were cut out for the posts and wonders if he should fiber tape them or just fill them. He opts to tape them but that'll wait until the morning.

The intricate bulkhead work is taped and will be ready for a second coat in two days. There were over three hundred feet of paper beads in the bulkheads, sometimes three inches at a time.

Tomorrow I'll hit corner beads and butt joints first thing in the morning and maybe even get to top corners ... we'll see how it goes. That concludes another day for this drywall taper.

Started New Drywall Taping Project

We took a few pictures of a new job we started today. It is fairly straightforward. There are some big gaps between sheets of drywall but all in all it was well boarded. Seems like we have been getting mostly basement renovations and they can be the toughest of all. At least there are no existing walls to repair, no patch-up work nor any window wells. There are quite a few bulkheads and some of them are quite intricate.

The ceiling has a few pot lights to contend with and serious bulkhead work.

Here's first coat on corner beads.
We like to hit the beads right away as they can take up to two days to dry in a basement.
Here's Fred mudding a bead that is blocked by an obstructing panel door.

A look at some of the intricate bulkheads.
Fred will use roll-on beads for this type of work.

Finished Sanding Drywall Taper Project

I finished sanding the entrance way and a couple of the rooms in the basement renovation project. Here's a couple of pictures of difficult drywall challenges.
This vent posed an enormous challenge when trying to smooth out the quadruple butt joint on the ceiling.

Remember the entrance way? This will look nice when it is painted.

Drywall Ready For Sanding

Finally got the project ready for sanding. I'll do that tomorrow afternoon. Here's a few pictures of what the walls look like at this stage.
Looks like a wall now!

Entrance way is perfect; no blemishes, no joints ...

Started repairing existing walls and merging to new.

The difficult quad butt joint is immaculate now.

Ready for Sanding Finish Drywalling Project

Much of the ceiling and bulkheads is ready for finish sanding. Skim coating will dry fast and be ready to sand tomorrow. A few corner beads left to skim.

Drywall Taping Phase About 4

Here what the site looks like after 4 rounds at it.

The four corner butt joint / vent obstruction came out good!

The entrance way will look good after I hit the corner beads on the 45 's again.

This double patch up / bulkhead assembly to existing wall is taking shape.

After skim coating horizontal joint.

Skim Coat Mudding Tomorrow

Tomorrow I start my skim coat. Skim coat is the final coat of mud. Basically, the walls and ceilings get rough sanded and then the mudding really begins. It is amazing exercise, skim coating. You put the drywall compound on and then with your trowel, you essentially take it off leaving a very thin layer to finish. After skim coats comes a very light sanding with a 120 grit sandpaper.

These patch-ups and bulkhead assemblies are ready for skim coat.

Entrance way is starting to look like walls!

Mid Project Taping Update

Drywall Taping Exercise Phase Two

Well I'm about mid finish this project. I have most of the second coat done. Here's a quick look at putting my second coat together and hitting my corners for the first time.
Joining existing walls to new ceiling with bulkhead patch-up.

High corners in the entrance way were tough to get at with extension ladder.

Little cubby-hole corners made for tight taping spots.

Quadruple butt-joint at entrance way required tapers TLC.

Getting tough drywall joint ready for skim coat.

Stairway caused for a little bit of a taping balancing act.

Before After Basement Drywalling Project

Drywall Taping Exercise Phase One

Thought I'd do a before and after posting. Here's a few pictures of a basement renovations project.
Here's a bulkhead repair and some patch-up boarding.

The ceiling has a challenging un-level butt joint.

This entrance way will require some drywall taping TLC including using roll-on bead for the 45's.

Stay tuned for mid-project and finish pictures.
